Volume 5, No. 2

2025 has been a very productive one for our Society. Here is a quick look at what has happened during the year.
On 15th February a Sundowner at Budd’s home in Jarrahdale. This was a lovely get together.

And the Old Post Office Museum was opened Saturday 20th February after the summer break.
In March we had our first tour. Year 5 students from South Coast Baptist College. This was followed in March from a group from a Fremantle group organised by Jan Jones. We also had Wannadoo Tours in which they were given a bus tour of Jarrahdale. Kalamunda Group visit was in April followed by Eton Farm Primary School. They attended over 4 visits. Great kids. Lindsay Marston brought 10 seniors through in July. Trevor Senior organised for Collie Probus members to Tour OPO in September. Great bunch. And our last tour for the year is from Mandurah Museum. Looking forward to who may visit us next year.
Our subsidised excursion to Peninsula Farm, Tranby House and Woodbridge House with a visit to Riverside at Woodbridge Café for lunch. This was in May. Fabulous outing. WA has so much history
Saturday 3rd May, was the Quiz Night. Oh my, our table did not come last, but we did not come first. I reckon we did well… considering.
Bush Dance evening with live Australian folk dances called by the Mucky Duck Bush Band. Saturday 2nd August.
It was so nice to see so many people dancing and generally having a laugh. So much fun was had by all.

Our Annual Pioneer Memorial Service was held on Wednesday 15th October celebrating the Lyster family. They had many stories to share and tell. Speakers were Ron, Maurice, Don and Salli. The Jarrahdale Heritage Choir came, and the two songs were Just a Closer Walk with Thee and the Old Rugged Cross. The OPO had displays of family portraits and the descendant tree. A cuppa was had, thank you to the volunteers that helped make the day for the Lyster family perfect. Great opportunity for family members to greet and catch up too as well as visiting the Jarrahdale Cemetery to lay a wreath on the family grave. Special time.

Saturday 1st November saw four of our members attend the Peel Chapter Workshop at the Army Museum. After a warm welcome from Stephen Sinclair, the Army Museum Curator, we heard from Jane King, current WA President of AMaGA, who presented ‘Toward 2029’. She discussed the challenges we all face including shrinking funding, a shortage of volunteers, and the need for more skilled people.
Here are some medals on one of the sessions held. Other Sessions were ‘Photos’ by Joanna Sassoon, ‘Metals’ by Richard, followed by ‘Textiles’ by Jennifer Brittain. Jessica Marantelli presented ‘How to Read a Dress’. She spoke about how to date and interpret garments. Julianne’s McKay delivered the final workshop ‘From Art on the Move’. Her session covered the correct handling of artworks from the planning stage through to condition recording and environmental controls such as lighting, temperature and humidity. She discussed appropriate clothing and hygiene practices (no food, drinks, or pens near objects), how to create a clean workspace, and use of various archival materials. ‘Behind the Scenes with Curators’ made me feel very inspired.
Mark Bullimore donated a beautiful photo album. The cover did little to show the pristine photos inside. They are in perfect condition. The album not so and we may look at getting some restoration work done on it. Two photos in which JHS do not have were part of this album. So exciting to receive this as it was saved from going to the tip. Thank you, Mark!
Another donation of some Jarrahdale artefacts came from the Axemen’s Club. These items have been on display at the OPO. And I am still accessioning and digitizing today. Amazing history for Jarrahdale Log Chop and Axemen.
Glen Power donated his book Trout in Western Australia. For sale in the shop. Amazing research done and great photos too.
And our little shop at the OPO. A wonderful array of items for the stockings.

At our AGM Diana Henniker has stepped down having volunteered as President and Curator for many years. She will still be on the Executive Committee; we still need her knowledge of Jarrahdale.
However, in closing this for the year 2025 we need more Volunteers. So many positions and projects about Jarrahdale that not one person can do alone. We need you. We need more young people to step forward and come on board!
Spread the word folks.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
